Literacy and Parents...
It is essential for students learning to not only be fostered in the classroom, but in their home lives as well. That is why it is so vital in developing positive working relationships with parents, to ensure they understand what learning is happening in the classroom, the strategies their students are being encouraged to use, and how they can help their child's learning at home.
- Invite parents to come in for literacy rotations/reading sessions and feel included in the learning process
- Keep parents updated on class blog about what students are focusing on in the classroom and ways they can foster their child's growth at home
- Encourage parents to read every night with their child- even if its only for 5-10 minutes! Record and monitor this through the use of the child's diary
- Provide parents with resources they can use to assist their child's development. eg. A laminated sheet of comprehension questions parents can ask their child during their nightly reading
